Childhood Memory!!!

Today might be a bit difficult for me, I seem to have very few childhood memories. But one memory I will not forget, is my interesting journey to secondary school life that baptised me “Chopper” .

It was a tormenting Monday, when Mum took me to school for boarding section for the first time in my life; Tears rolling over my cheeks with anger that had coiled on my neck, I asked her how long I would be alone at school with strangers. With no clear answer, she just promised to be coming back to check on me in the evening but I knew she was lying to me; as our home was far away from this new school that was my new home. The tears and the anger I had the first week of my stay were enough for me to look forward to a free range system- day schooling.

The life I will never forget

After PLE (Primary Leaving Examinations), I assured Mum that I was not ready to go back to a boarding school for secondary level. I was given an opportunity to choose what means I was to use to go to school since my complaint was being considered. 1)- this meant that I had to go a nearby secondary school; 2)- I would be ready to talk to school everyday and back, 3) I was not supposed to complain of distance, 4) the better option was to learn riding a bicycle to ease my movement.

All these conditions were clear, I decided to learn a bicycle so I may reduce on the fatigue that would come with walking daily to school. The best school I had to attend my classes from was and is still 7 kms away from my home, so learning to ride was the best option. My sweet brothers supported me in learning and before end of senior one term one, I was a bit stable and able to push it to school and back.

The great moments I had

Practice makes Permanent, within a week, I was very good on the road and able to even let go of the bike handles on a slope as I enjoyed the ride. News kept coming home that my speed on the road was becoming too much as I would lose my life. My parents got worried but out that, I was nickname Chopper (Helicopter) 🤣😎 with a warning that I would lose my teeth one day If I continued riding at a terrible speed. The chopper in me was very steady, nothing like an accident but of course It did not take long, I got tired of waking up early and riding; I gave in to boarding life again. You may not want to dare me even now, riding a bike is like my signature.

Yours truly

Chopper🤣
